The South African BRICS Think Tank (SABTT) and the Institute for Global Dialogue (IGD) hosted another fascinating policy dialogue on 3 July 2017. The dialogue was held at the NIHSS offices under the topic: BRICS in Africa.
Three keynote speakers from IGD namely, Dr Philani Mthembu, Sanusha Naidu and Arina Muresan delivered their presentations. “The world is no longer multipolar. Development in Africa is being spearheaded by global south actors, led by China and India,” Dr Mthembu said.
Sanusha Naidu’s presentation looked at how China and India’s economic initiatives are scrambling for dominance in the global South. Arina Muresan’s talk focused on South Africa’s positioning in BRICS – posing a question on whether South Africa is representing itself or the continent in this inter-state initiative.
