In honour of Women’s Month, the National Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences (NIHSS) proudly presents the Women of Impact Series. This series celebrates the outstanding achievements of our female graduates, partners, and project leaders in the Humanities and Social Sciences. We showcase the groundbreaking research, extraordinary dedication, and inspiring visions of these accomplished women. Through their innovative work and unwavering commitment, they have advanced in their respective fields and shaped a more inclusive and diverse future. Join us in celebrating their remarkable contributions and stories.

1. What does the celebration of Women’s Month mean to you?

To me, Women’s Month is a deliberate reminder that women matter and that our views, values, and contributions to society matter. As women, this month reminds us that we should never hand over our power simply because someone else or even circumstance for that matter makes us feel less important. We are powerful in nature, and we should at all times carry ourselves as such and make sure that we are impactful and supportive towards each other. As women, we should at all times lift each other as we rise. For me, there’s absolutely nothing as powerful as to see women loving, empowering, supporting, and defending each other. As we celebrate Women’s Month, let us be reminded to wear our confidence with confidence. Again, as we chase our dreams, navigate through many talents and opportunities, as well as realising our dreams, let us not forget to take a break, appreciate where we have come from, and celebrate small achievements towards realising our biggest dreams. Let us do all of this with the courage it deserves... Let this month be a permanent reminder that once upon a time, there were courageous women who fought for all the struggles women of this country faced and continue to face. Their effort cannot be forgotten. We salute their courageous spirit, and we shall not die with the baton in our hands. We will continue to live courageously, as I live by the motto, ‘Courage is contagious.' Happy Women’s Month to us.
