Dr Mabaso is a legal scholar, attorney, and emerging academic whose work spans corporate law, labour law, intellectual property, and the evolving discourse on decolonisation within South Africa’s legal framework. He holds an LLB (2019), an LLM in Business Law (2020), and a PhD in Law (2023) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. His doctoral research, “The reality of decolonising labour law: A South African Perspective,” positions him among a new generation of legal thinkers interrogating transformation in the post-colonial legal landscape.
Admitted as an attorney of the High Court in 2023, Dr Mabaso trained and practised at the esteemed firm Adams & Adams, specialising in trademark litigation and corporate-commercial advisory work. Over his tenure, he represented clients in several notable matters before the Companies Tribunal, High Court, Supreme Court of Appeal, and across multiple African jurisdictions. His portfolio reflects extensive expertise in intellectual property disputes, corporate governance, and complex litigation strategy.
Dr Mabaso is also a dedicated academic, having supervised postgraduate students at UNISA and published widely across accredited law journals on labour law, constitutionalism, discrimination, and legal education. His scholarly output includes peer-reviewed articles, case commentaries, and ongoing research currently under review.
His leadership within the higher education and research landscape continues to grow, with national recognition for his contributions to socially responsive legal scholarship. He currently serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Legal Sciences at the Vaal University of Technology, where he teaches, supervises, and mentors emerging legal scholars.
